What's going to be a big influence on voters is education. What are both sides saying regarding how parents should be involved in their child's education?
Terry McAuliffe stated that "I'm not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions. I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should teach." So he believes parents should have ZERO say in what their child is taught. It's what they all think. Democrats want to have government-funded education, where they control what is or isn't taught. They aren't hiding it anymore. First they indoctrinated colleges, where these young minds could become warped into following their leftist ways. Now it's entering our elementary, middle, and high schools. They essentially want the next generation to become an AOC.
Look at the facts. Youngkin wasn't polling too well. McAuliffe looked like he had it in the bag, but once he gave his take on parents' involvement in education, his polling dropped while Youngkin increased by 18%. You don't mess with parents and their children.
What McAuliffe stated comes after the recent news of a Virginia mom discussing how her child was being shown sexually explicit content in two books at the school’s library. This also included "illustrations including fellatio, sex toys, masturbation and nudity." One of the school board members made the excuse for these books in the library stating, "To be clear, nothing will disrupt our Board’s commitment to LGBTQIA+ students, families and staff. Nothing." This led the school board member to receive major backlash for his subtle pro-pedophilia comment. Then there's what happened at the Loudoun school, where a male student claimed to be female, then sexually harassed two biologically female students, but the school covered up the incident.
Former VP Mike Pence has also come out to criticize the schools, and endorsed Youngkin. Barack Obama is criticizing parents who disagree with what these schools are teaching, treating them like the enemy.
Youngkin has made it known he supports school choice and supports a parent's right to be involved in their child's education. This will be a major point in the election, because for most parents, messing with their kids is a BIG problem. This could be what costs Democrats. And they are slowly realizing they are losing. They're getting scared.
Republicans dropped the ball on Virginia, and were wrong to assume Virginia was a lost cause. Clearly, the possibility of a victory is there. If Youngkin continues the hard work he has done, he could win next week. I'm not saying it's set in stone. It's still too early to say. But I do have great hope we may see Virginia turn back red.
